ImageQuiet Times For A Change!

Parade night training and activities continue as normal. Weekends have been relatively quiet since the last article, so it might be a good time to talk about the ATC in a general sense. What is the ATC all about? Well it’s best summed up by the 3 formal aims adopted by the organisation:-

Aims of the Air Training Corps

  1. To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
  2. To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.
  3. To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

I have underlined the key phrases. I would add that one important aim is to have fun! Membership of the ATC also looks great on your CV.

Airborne at Cranwell But Grounded At Syerston

Flying is very much dependent on the weather. Recently some of our cadets enjoyed a day’s flying at RAF Cranwell but on a different weekend another set were not so lucky. Unfortunately, at RAF Syerston the cloud was too low causing restricted visibility and we were unable to fly. However, cadets enjoyed a game of pool, baseball with the staff and a trip to see the two decommissioned Jaguar aircraft that sit at the top of the airfield. In addition they had a tour round the hangar areas, courtesy of our friends in the RAF. So all was not lost.

Coming Soon

Cadets are training and planning their D of E expeditions that will take place in the coming months. As previously mentioned, in April we are on camp at RAF Syerston. We also look forward to Scuba Diving and Climbing.
